A SOCIOLINGUISTIC STUDY OF BUSINESS JARGON IN THE INTERNET

ABSTRACT

This thesis entitled A Sociolinguistic Study of Business Jargons in the internet
is aimed (1) to find the forms of the internet business jargons, and (2) to find out the
meanings of the internet business jargons.
The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. It does not use
any statistical procedure or calculation in analyzing the data. The data collection
technique in this research is direct observation. The researcher collects the data by
searching some blogs, websites, and books which include the Internet business
jargons. The data analyzing technique is done by identifying some jargons which are
used in internet business program, classifying the Internet business jargons based on
their forms, finding the meaning of the jargons, and drawing conclusion.
The result of the study shows that the forms of jargons are words and phrases.
The words are nouns, verbs, and adjectives. The types of phrases are noun phrases,
verb phrases, prepositional phrases, and adjective phrase. The word formation of
jargons can be in the form of abbreviation, acronym, blending, compounding, and
clipping.
